In a historic move aligning with Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani’s
visit to the United Kingdom, the University of Doha for Science and Technology
(UDST) has announced groundbreaking partnerships with two of the UK’s most
prestigious universities: the University of Oxford and Cranfield University.
These collaborations mark a significant milestone in advancing education and
technological innovation in Qatar.
The agreements underscore the importance of international cooperation in
academia, aiming to enhance applied research, foster innovation, and build
capacity in key areas. Dr. Salem Al Naemi, President of UDST, expressed pride
in these partnerships, emphasizing their role in preparing future leaders for
Qatar and beyond. “These agreements open new horizons for innovation and
applied research that will greatly benefit our students, faculty, and the
broader Qatari community,” he noted.
One of the key initiatives involves a partnership with the University of
Oxford to establish a regional coordination center for The Global Health
Network (TGHN). This center will enhance Qatar’s research capacity, focusing on
knowledge exchange, regional training programs, and integrating research into
healthcare practices. Professor Trudie Lang, Head of TGHN, lauded the
collaboration, highlighting its potential to build equitable, locally-led
research in health systems across the region.
The partnership with Cranfield University focuses on aerospace capabilities
and strengthening academic and research ties. The agreement facilitates
collaboration between students and faculty, fostering innovation to address
global challenges like sustainability. Professor Dame Helen Atkinson, Deputy
Vice-Chancellor at Cranfield University, emphasized the importance of building
global academic connections, noting their shared vision for addressing pressing
skills and innovation needs.
These partnerships reinforce Qatar’s commitment to becoming a hub for
world-class education and research, propelling the nation toward a future
driven by knowledge, innovation, and global collaboration.
