In a groundbreaking initiative, the UAE
Ministry of Education has announced the rollout of Artificial
Intelligence (AI) as a compulsory subject from Grade 1 to Grade 12 starting
September 2025. This makes the UAE the first country in the Gulf to embed AI
literacy across all educational levels.
The curriculum will focus on basic digital
awareness in early grades, transitioning to machine learning, data science,
robotics, and ethical AI concepts in higher grades. Partnering with
tech giants like Microsoft and Huawei, the program includes teacher training,
AI labs, and real-world projects aligned with national innovation
goals.
Private schools following international
curricula are also encouraged to integrate AI modules. The long-term aim is to
prepare students for a future workforce dominated by AI, automation, and
smart technologies, while also addressing national strategies like the UAE
Centennial 2071 and the National AI Strategy.
This initiative reinforces the UAE’s role as a
regional leader in education innovation and sets a benchmark for other
GCC countries.
